“I remain confident of this:I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” - Psalm 27:13
What kind of statement is this verse? On the on hand, it is a profound statement of faith. No matter the darkness, I will look to the light. Though night falls around me I will wait for the dawn. Psalm 27 is a bold declaration that we will endure, that we will not surrender, that we will not give up hope.
And if that were all that this Psalm were, that would be more than enough. But I believe it is something even more. “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Is also our mission statement.
Where we are right now, with what we have right now, we are determined to see to it that the goodness of the Lord will be seen in this land of the living.
We will be the voice of hope to the hopeless, the welcome to the stranger, the comfort to the afflicted. We will stretch our arms to help lift those who fallen, to share our food with the hungry, and to break the yokes of the oppressed.
