Monatuk and New York Beaches Surf Report for 03-08-2025

Description
Surf's up, beach lovers, but not in the way you might hope! The National Weather Service is sounding the alarm with a high rip current risk that's got everyone's attention along the New York coastline.

If you're thinking about catching waves today, think again. We're looking at a tricky surf situation from Brooklyn to the Hamptons. Expect cloudy skies, temperatures hovering in the upper 60s, and winds whipping from the east at 15 to 20 miles per hour.

Surf heights are sitting around 3 to 4 feet, which might sound tempting, but here's the deal: these conditions are a recipe for dangerous rip currents. Lifeguards are essentially saying stay out of the water. Seriously. This is not the day for water adventures.

Water temperatures are in the upper 60s, but don't let that fool you. The risk is real. Southeastern Suffolk beaches are seeing slightly larger waves around 4 feet, with Ditch Plains and Cupsogue Beach looking particularly dicey.

Low tides are rolling in mid-morning - Coney Island at 12:03, Rockaway at 12:05, Jones Inlet at 11:55. But timing your beach visit around tides won't make these conditions any safer.

A quick chance of rain adds to the mix, and the UV index is low. If you're dead set on beach time, bring a jacket and enjoy the view from the sand. Sunset comes early today at around 6:40 PM.

Pro tip: When in doubt, stay out. The ocean isn't playing around today. Catch some rest, maybe plan indoor activities, and live to surf another day.

Stay safe, stay dry, and respect the water.
