Back to EpisodesEuropean leaders agree to provide security guarantee for Ukraine
Description
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and at least a dozen European leaders attended a major defence summit in London and showed unequivocal support for Ukraine. Leaders agreed to create a 'coalition of the willing' to provide security guarantees for a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine. The meeting marked a shift in tone after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's tense meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, and U.S. Vice President JD Vance at the Oval Office on Friday. Plus, the Trump administration ordered a new trade investigation that could heap more tariffs on imported lumber, adding to existing duties on Canadian softwood lumber, and 25 per cent tariffs on all Canadian and Mexican goods starting Tuesday. Trump claims it's an effort to curb the flow of fentanyl into the U.S., but that's despite less than one per cent of all fentanyl arriving from Canada.
