Published 1 year, 1 month ago
Description
In this segment host, Phil Tower welcomes Dr. Sonia Hassan, founding director of Wayne State University’s Office of Women’s Health SOS MATERNITY Network, a network seeking to end preventable causes of death in mothers and children.
SOS Maternity is a healthcare collaborative led by the Wayne State University’s Office of Women’s Health. It’s comprised of 14 maternal-fetal medicine universities and healthcare systems across Michigan.
Every two minutes, a woman dies of pregnancy or childbirth in the United States, and the latest statistics indicate the infant mortality rate in Michigan is higher than the national rate of 5.6%.
Dr. Hassan noted, "The SOS MATERNITY Network has created a statewide network of Michigan’s finest universities and healthcare systems to declare war on our terrible rates of maternal and infant mortality."
