Beach Lovers, Buckle Up for a Stormy Sunday!

Attention all coastal adventurers! The National Weather Service is dropping a serious warning for New York beaches today. If you're thinking about catching waves, think again.

We're looking at a high rip current risk across all our favorite shorelines from Coney Island to the Hamptons. The surf is churning with 3 to 4-foot waves that are absolutely not playing around. Winds are howling from the east at 15 to 20 miles per hour, creating treacherous conditions that lifeguards are definitely NOT recommending you test.

The temperature might be hanging in the upper 60s, but don't let that fool you. These waters are dangerous. Cloudy skies and a chance of rain are adding to the drama, with a low UV index making everything look extra moody.

Bottom line: Stay out of the water today. These rip currents are life-threatening, and no beach selfie is worth risking your safety. If you absolutely must enter the water, have a flotation device, stay near a lifeguard, and know your escape routes.

Tide times are rolling in - low tide hits between 11:53 AM and 12:07 PM depending on your beach. Sunrise was early at 6:42 AM, with sunset coming around 6:36 PM.

Pro tip: The beach forecast team is taking a break after today, resuming in 2025. So consider this your final warning of the season - respect the ocean, stay safe, and live to surf another day!
