EP 28: Where WSSBC Began – Wild Sheep on the Fraser with Chris Procter

Episode 28 Published 4 years, 10 months ago
Description

We sit down with Region 3 Senior Wildlife Biologist Chris Procter to talk wild sheep. As WSSBC's largest fiscal commitment to date, California Bighorns on the Fraser River ecosystem is a critical project. Traditional wild sheep numbers on the Fraser were estimated around 2400. It is believed today that roughly 800 wild sheep inhabit the region - a massive die-off at the hands of mycoplasma ovipneumoniae. Chris talks specifically about the work being done in the area including the history, mechanics of the project and why this piece of habitat is so critical. With some very early successes there is reason for optimism for wild sheep in British Columbia.
