这期节目我们来聊聊schools in the US（美国的学校），以及what are some things that are quite surprising（哪些事情比较让人惊讶）。

1. College dorms are very expensive.大学宿舍很贵。

这点是different from Chinese colleges（跟中国大学不同），而且大多数学院only guarantee dorms for the first year students（只确保一年级的学生有宿舍住）。

第一年以后，大多数 public universities（公立大学）的学生 have to move off campus（必须搬离学校）或者go apartment hunting for a place near the school（在学校附近找公寓）。

Most of the time,it’s cheaper to live off campus than to live on campus（离校居住比住校便宜）. 这是因为the dorms are definitely more convenient（宿舍肯定更方便），并且closer to your classes（离上课的地方更近）。

2. In American schools, freshmen are often looked down upon.

在美国学校里，新生经常会被人嫌弃。

有很多teen movies（青少年电影）里面有scenes where they just bully the freshmen（有人欺负新生的场景）。虽然不是真实情况，但在high school（高中）， upperclassman（高年级学生）会说 freshman（新生） 很annoying（烦人）。

Even if they don’t know the freshman personally（私下里不认识新生）, 也会 blame the hallways being crowded or bad smells on freshman（把走廊很拥挤或有怪味的错推给新生）。

在新生go  up  to  being  a  sophomore（升上二年级）之后， 他们也会start  disliking freshman（开始讨厌新生）。

不过在加拿大，很多人simplythink that the freshmenare cute（只是觉得新生很可爱）。

3. There is a type of cafeteria culture in some schools.

在一些学校里存在着食堂文化。
