Reading a book, what you acquire from thenovel is just ideas. That gives you plenty of room for imagination. For example, when the author describes the appearance of the protagonist, he may use a lotof adjectives or comparisons. But you will never be able to picture what theperson really looks like. And every reader has his own version of the look ofthe characters in the book. In contrast, a movie based on a novel has alreadybeen interpreted by the playwright, the director as well as the actors. It givesyou all the images and sounds, intangible feelings. To a large extent, thecharm of the book has diminished. But, of course, there is a reason why peoplenowadays prefer movies rather than books, which is they lead such a fast-paced lifethat they are too scatterbrained to immerse in the books.
