Pittsburgh Double Bass Symposium is back! To highlight the event, double bassists John Moore, Aaron White, Jeffrey Grubbs, Peter Guild, Jeffrey Turner, Brandon McClane, Jeff Mangone, and Drew Collins, performed two pieces live in WQED's Fred Rogers Studio. They performed Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings", and an encore presentation of Daryl Rumswick's "Strauss in the Doghouse". They perform both pieces in honor of Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra double bass player, Betsy Heston, who died at the age of 70 last year. John Moore, Peter Guild, and Jeff Turner spoke with Jim Cunningham about the symposium and it's schedule of speakers. This year will feature 4 different classes with presenters, a performance by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's Bass Section, and a performance by Mikyung Sung. Mikyung's performance will feature "Sonata No. 2" by Adolf Misek, "European Memories" by Arni Egilsson, and "Kicho" by Astor Piazzola.
