Advice from couples who made it and what have I learnt from my relationships!!!

Published 1 year, 2 months ago
Description

It's my Mum and Dad's 47th wedding anniversary and today I'm reflecting on my experience and what I've learnt and advice my Dad has given me on relationships.

The biggest lesson I've learnt is when 3rd party ppl are driving a wedge into your relationship and your partner is not stopping them or fighting for you - walk away.  You don't need to prove your love and loyalty to someone who doesn't see it and whose blinded by the toxicity around them.

Don’t settle for less than you deserve.

Behind every happy couple is the security of knowing that an argument is not going to end their relationship!

Psychotherapist Dr Esther Perel noted, the core challenges that come up in relationships that can become the cornerstone of the demise are:

💣 Neglect - Taking your partner for granted. They are not a priority.  Everyone and everything becomes a priority ahead of your partner.  Coldness followed by

estrangement.  Less important. Everything gets priority but your partner.

💣 Indifference - when you or your partner fundamentally doesn’t care about the other anymore.  We want to feel like we are creatures of meaning. You want my well-being, I matter to you.  Essential reason for connecting to people.  I am someone.  Degrade the other person.  I matter to you.

💣  Contempt - Degradation of your partner.  Disregarding your partner.  Not considering them and their feelings.

💣 Violence - Disrespect, emotional manipulation, passive aggressiveness. Resentment.
