Hackers are spreading crypto-stealing malware through fake GitHub repositories in a campaign called GitVenom, targeting developers. According to Kaspersky, attackers create legitimate-looking projects, such as Telegram bots for Bitcoin wallets, which contain malware to steal browsing history, crypto wallet data, and replace copied wallet addresses. Stolen data, including passwords and banking details, is sent via Telegram. Most infections have been found in Russia, Brazil, and Turkey. Kaspersky urges caution when using third-party code. Meanwhile, Microsoft recently warned about a new XCSSET malware variant targeting crypto wallets on Apple macOS devices through infected Xcode projects.
