Episode 786 Published 1 year, 3 months ago
Description
Former Pittsburgh Opera Music Director John Mauceri remembers his time in Pittsburgh and talks about his recent CD release of Erich Wolfgang Korngold - The Korngold Symphony with the Orchestra Della Svizzera Italiana. The release includes an historic recording of Korngold playing his Symphony on the piano. John Mauceri tells Jim Cunningham about the program and message behind the notes describing the events of WWII. John discusses his long study of Korngold's music and how this recording came together. He chooses a favorite Hollywood film score by Korngold, and previews his next book. He also tells the story of the Korngold family escaping Vienna on the last train after the Nazi's took control of the country. John retells some of the in depth information found in the program booklet, written by himself and Korngold's grandson, Leslie.
