In The Four Mighty Ones, Neville Goddard reveals the mystical power of creation within every individual. The Four Mighty Ones symbolize the four aspects of consciousness that shape our reality. This concept is veiled throughout scripture—in the four gospels, four horsemen, four rivers of Eden, and four creatures around God's throne—and represents the four functions of the creative process within man.
The riddle from Proverbs 30 asks: Who hath gathered the wind in his fist? Who hath bound the waters in a garment? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son’s name? Neville explains that these questions relate to the fourfold creative process:
- Awareness (Spirit / Wind) – "I AM"
- The first mighty one is the awareness of being, symbolized by the Jod (fist) in the divine name.
- It is the foundation of creation—without awareness, nothing exists.
- Imagination (Water / Psychological Truth) – The Visionary
- The second mighty one gathers psychological truth into a form, shaping thoughts into possibilities.
- This is the "garment" that one mentally wears.
- Assumption (Earth / Solidity) – The Director
