Description

Supernatural Season 7 wrap-up 💝 A drive-in full of special features, a correction to the Fox sisters lore, and the great “worst season ever” debate on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.

Season 7 is in the books, and Berly and LA are mourning the end of Dick. LA walks through what might be their favorite set of special features yet, packed with writers, directors, and effects artists. Then the hosts take on the internet’s claim that Season 7 is the worst season of Supernatural, and each picks their two favorite episodes.

Episode Highlights:

  • A drive-in movie menu, plus a glove compartment and horn that do absolutely nothing
  • Psycho Scribes: the writers on running out of classic monsters, and the True Grit inspiration behind Adventures in Babysitting
  • High Rate of Death: the thinking behind Bobby’s ghost arc, and Jim Beaver on who always gets Miss Nebraska
  • Ivan Hayden’s digital effects: Leviathan jaws, the dots on Chet’s face, and Cas’s very layered blast into Purgatory
  • A Divine T-shirt sends Berly straight back to the John Emmet Tracy interview
  • Weekend in Lily Dale and the real Fox sisters, which means a lore correction for The Mentalists
  • Benson Musaev and Toby Lindala on Cas’s stretchy belly, the dryer victim, and the turducken sandwich
  • Jensen Ackles actually sings Air Supply in an outtake, no lip-syncing
  • Scoring Washboards: the California Feetwarmers record real 1940s sound for Time After Time
  • Directing the Supernatural: Robert Singer’s slow-mo smile, Jensen crediting Kim Manners, Ben Edlund’s Red Baron dream, and Jerry Wanek behind the camera

Then the hosts dig into why so many fans call Season 7 the worst: the treatment of Castiel, losing Bobby, and Leviathans that CBR calls annoying. Berly and LA disagree. Their theory is that the haters just don’t love camp, and if this is the worst it gets, bring on Season 8.

LA’s favorites are Shut Up, Dr. Phil for the Buffy reunion and Time After Time for the time travel and those suits, with an honorable mention for every Garth episode. Berly picks Slash Fiction, because it gave us Frank Devereaux, Dick’s debut, and the doppelgangers, and Repo Man, for a human villain unlike anything before. Her honorable mentions go to Reading Is Fundamental and The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo, which might have made her top two if Dick had unbuttoned his jacket.

The season closes with a toast to the recurring characters who won’t be back for Season 8: Dr. Gaines (Cameron Bancroft), Chet (Sean Owen Roberts), Frank Devereaux (Kevin McNally), Edgar (Benito Martinez), Dick Roman (James Patrick Stuart), and Bobby Singer (Jim Beaver).
