Description

59. Our Stories and Our Songs

We're joined by John Williams, an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Leicester, to talk about the stories, myths and historic tales which make our game what it is today.

Storytelling plays a huge role within football, whether it's about the origin stories of the club your support or your grandad telling you about his favourite away day. As supporters, we create myths and idolise players in such a way that these stories take on a generational aspect.

John seeks to capture these sentiments in his latest book, which tells the history of football in Britain through a scrapbook-timeline of lesser-known stories and tales, each of which speak to the wider socio-economic and political landscapes of the contexts in which they exist.
