Jurickson Profar, Matt Waldron and the San Diego Padres were too much for the Miami Marlins today in San Diego, with the Padres shutting out the Marlins 4-0 in the middle game of their three-game series.

The loss ends the Marlins' quest to win their fifth consecutive series. They had taken two out of three games from the Tigers, Mets and Brewers prior to losing the first two here in San Diego. 

Jesus Luzardo went six innings for Miami, allowing three runs, all driven in by Jurickson Profar. Profar hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and singled in the Padres' other run in the fifth. Profar's homer barely cleared the left field wall, and the jumping attempt by Miami's Jazz Chisholm. Donovan Solano doubled in Manny Machado in the bottom of the eighth to tack on three insurance run. 

Luzardo wasn't quite as sharp as he had been in recent starts, allowing seven hits to the star-studded Padres. Fernando Tatis, Jr. , and Solano added two hits apiece for San Diego, 29-28. 

San Diego knuckleballer Matt Waldron dominated the Marlins' struggling offense, pitching seven shutout innings, allowing six hits, walking none and striking out eight. 

Jeremiah Estrada struck out, running his strikeout streak to a record twelve hitters in a row when he got Jesus Sanchez, Jake Burger, and Nick Gordon in order. 

Josh Bell went 3-3 against Waldron, finishing 3-4. Burger went 2-3 for the Fish, who had just six total hits. 

The two teams wrap up their three-game series tomorrow. Braxton Garrett pitches for Miami, against Sand Diego's Yu Darvish.
