Today, I am blessed to have you here with me Chris Irvin. He is a researcher of health and an educator whose sole focus is on low-carb and keto diets and their effects on health and human performance. He is also a writer and the author of Keto Answers, Mommy Do I Have to Eat This?

Chris and I first connected online and did a podcast. The first time we ever met in person was during KetoCon. 

Chris is also a player of basketball and he often plays two to three times a week. He mentioned that exercise should be something that you enjoy doing, rather than being a punishment. As he plays basketball, it is usually equivalent to five to six miles of working which is already considered a high-intensity workout. If this was running, he wouldn't be able to enjoy it and he'll most likely quit once he is tired.

In this episode, the podcast started about sports and exercise. Chris eventually discussed the Keto diet and its current state of popularity. He also talks about the benefits and importance of Keto. The difference between fat and keto adaptations was also discussed in this episode.

  • Exercise should be something you enjoy doing, instead of being a punishment.

  • When you do something you enjoy for exercise, you'll be able to get anywhere. It may even be a high-intensity style of training.

  • When you do an exercise that you do not enjoy, you will push yourself up to the limit and stop once you’re tired.

[10:26] Is there a decrease in Keto's popularity as a diet?

  • Keto or Ketogenic diet has been cyclical over the last five years. In Google trends, it often maxes out at some time of the year and would decrease on the rest of the year.

  • Some people only use Keto as a tool to achieve a certain goal. They would transition to another diet once that goal is reached.

  • In 2018, Keto was popular and people, influencers, and companies were leaning into it. 

  • Some influencers who were into Keto before are no longer promoting and doing the Keto diet.
