Rays President Matt Silverman responded to Pinellas county officials saying the 'deal is still in effect' contradicting their earlier stance by Brian Auld who said the 'deal is dead'. Rays response included a bolded statement: “We would not have gone forward with the project if a future Pinellas County Commission had the ability to revoke the approval we all celebrated in July or to unilaterally delay the project’s completion into 2029.” Rays fans and the baseball world are now watching a standoff—None of those parties (County Commission, St. Pete City Council, Rays) want to be responsible for pulling the plug on plans to build the Historic Gas Plant District anchored by a ballpark, an overall $6.5 billion development.
