After a nun gave birth while remaining a virgin, the church viewed Maria's intersex traits as an ill omen, blaming her for misfortunes. Upon reaching 33, the church intended to sacrifice her, but Maria chose suicide instead. Subsequently, priests severed her head, concealing it within the Vatican where, according to lore, her spirit continues to haunt the institution.
