Stand the Fire

“If the Lord comes and burns - as you say he will - I am not going away; I am going to stay here and stand the fire, like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! And Jesus will walk with me through the fire and keep me from harm.” - Sojourner Truth

There were and are some who try to use religion as a tool of manipulation and control. Sojourner knew that true religion leads to wellbeing, empowerment, liberation, and freedom. 

Truth’s spiritual experiences and faith gave her the courage to stand the fire of slavery, racism, sexism, economic exploitation, and injustice of every kind. 

She could not be frightened into compliance or manipulated into accepting the unacceptable. Her faith gave her the determination and courage to boldly stand  knowing that she never stood alone. The God she knew always walked with her through the fire. 

Pray for a faith like hers, a faith that gives us the courage to stand the fire.
