आत्मसाक्षात्काराय अपि काचित् अर्हता अपेक्षते इति इयं कथा दर्शयति । कश्चन साधकः आत्मसाक्षात्कारं प्राप्तुम् इच्छन् कञ्चन माहात्मानं मार्गदर्शनं प्रार्थयते । महात्मा प्रतिवर्षं तं परीक्ष्य पुनः जपकरणार्थं प्रेषयति । वर्षत्रयानन्तरं सः साधकः परीक्षायाम् उत्तीर्णतां प्राप्य आत्मसाक्षात्काराय अपेक्षितां योग्यतां निरूपयति । तदनन्तरं सः महात्मा साधकं ब्रह्मस्वरूपादिकं बोधयति ।
(“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)
This story shows that self-realization requires certain qualities. A seeker wants to achieve it and asks a sage for guidance. Every year, the sage tests him and sends him for meditation. After three years, the seeker passes the tests and proves his worthiness. The sage then teaches him about the true self and Parabrahman.
