Kanye West is a phenomenon; a rap artist who came from nowhere, married a Kardashian, and somehow managed to attain a fame which would take others decades to achieve. But that’s not always a good thing; West comes across to many as a troubled man, despite his many media appearances and public addresses. This could be due to the media’s portrayal of him as a slightly madcap or off-kilter pundit, a mascot for stupidity. But West is not stupid; he appears to be someone with strong and often offensive opinions; whether he has bought into the adage that ‘bad publicity is still publicity’ and therefore worth having to keep the ‘brand’ alive.With his recent declaration to run for President, David Olsen has added to his already well stocked vault of information about Ye. He tells Ed Opperman about the man behind what the public see, the stories and development which have lead him to this point in his life. It’s a story which is both melancholic whilst also being unbelievable.
