Participants logged 936 instances of AI usage for tasks like fact-checking and summarization, primarily demonstrating critical thinking in prompt structuring and AI output verification. Researchers warn that while AI can enhance efficiency, it may reduce critical engagement, particularly in routine tasks, potentially weakening problem-solving skills and cognitive flexibility.
