Description
Finding the Perfect Knife | Episode 356 Losing your everyday carry (EDC) knife can be frustrating, but it also presents an opportunity to reassess what you truly need in a blade. In this episode of the Survivalpunk Podcast, I dive into my preferences for EDC knives, survival knives, and the importance of a two-knife system for the outdoors. Choosing the Right EDC Knife A good EDC knife strikes a balance between utility and self-defense. I prefer a medium-blade knife—big enough to handle common cutting tasks yet still compact for daily carry. Features I look for include:
- Blade Length: Around 3-4 inches for versatility.
- Steel Type: High-carbon or stainless steel for durability.
- Locking Mechanism: A reliable lock for safety.
- Deployment: Easy one-handed opening.
- A Large Chopper: This knife is meant for heavy-duty tasks like batoning wood and clearing brush. A good example would be a kukri or a large Bowie-style knife.
- A Smaller Bushcraft Knife: Precision cutting, carving, and detailed work require a smaller, more maneuverable knife, like a Morakniv or a compact fixed blade.
