This week James, Jerah, and Jonathan review the 2007 film “The Great Debaters,” directed by and starring Denzel Washington. It’s about a poet and professor, Melvin B. Tolson who teaches at Wiley College in Texas in 1935. He starts a debate team and they eventually become the first Black team to Challenge Harvard. The movie also stars Forest Whitaker, Nate Parker, Jurnee Smollett, Denzel Whitaker, John Heard, and Kimberly Elise. Produced by Melisa D.
