The Power of Getting Tired

Season 10 Episode 10

“I am sick and tired of being sick and tired” - Fannie Lou Hammer

Civil rights activist, women’s rights activist, community organizer and co founder of the Mississippi Democratic Freedom Party shows us the power of getting tired.

When we get tired enough, we will stop accepting the unacceptable and face our fears. We decide that remaining how and where we are is the worst possible outcome.

When we get tired enough we will identify and use the advantages we have. In Hammer’s case, she could grow and store food on her land. Her enemies might be to kill her but they could never starve her. There was nothing they could do to shut her up other put her in her grave and she’d rather die than be silent.

When we get tired enough, we’ll take the time to study the system, learn how it works. We will recruit and educate others who are tired. We will show them their power and give them tangible actions they can take.

When we get tired enough we will find and use our voice, and put actions behind our words.
