Description
Synopsis: This is a special episode of The Straits Times' video series The Big Story, hosted by Hairianto Diman and Olivia Quay.
Monkeypox cases have reached 219 worldwide, in countries where the disease is not endemic.
The UK - where monkeypox's unusual appearance was first detected in early May - currently has the largest bulk of confirmed cases, 71. It is followed by Spain with 59 cases and Portugal with 37.
Professor Dale Fisher, chair of the World Health Organisation's Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network and a senior consultant in infectious diseases at National University Hospital, discusses how the monkeypox virus spreads and if Singapore is at risk of an outbreak.
