New Hazlett Theater's Community Support Art Series is back for the 2025 season! In this episode, we discuss the first play of the series, My Sister's Lipstick, with playwright Anna King Skeels, and cast members, Annie Morehead, Audrey Klein, and June Almonte. Anna talks about how this play explores the emotional journey of two siblings navigating the aftermath of their father's death. One sibling, played by Annie, stays in their apartment and escapes into a fantastical world. The other, played by Audrey Klein, struggles to move forward without help and support from their sibling. The cast also talks about how they connect to their characters, including the age difference (or lack there of) between the actors and their characters. Annie talks about how their character, George, tries to explore their identity and grief through art, drag, and Judy Garland. Audrey then talks about portraying the older sister, Morrison, and how their emotional struggles highlight tension in a family filled with grief. June, who plays Morrison's love interest Jane, talks about how important they are to the emotional arc of Morrison's story. June also highlights how their queer relationship is presented similarly as a straight-heterosexual relationship.
