Supernatural: Of Grave Importance (7x19) | Recap & Lore

Season 7 Episode 19 Published 1 year, 9 months ago
Description

Supernatural Season 7, Episode 19, Of Grave Importance recap đź‘» Bobby takes Ghost 101 in a haunted mansion full of very unfriendly dead people on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.

Annie (Jamie Luner), a hunter with a history with Bobby (and, it turns out, everyone else), calls to pass along some of Bobby’s books, then never shows up for lunch. The trail leads to the Van Ness house in Bodega Bay, a staple on America’s most-haunted lists, and Bobby tags along to help. Plus, the hosts finally say what they’re drinking: a lime White Claw and a Moscow Mule.

Episode Highlights:

  • Tacos on the side of the road (“no, that’s not a euphemism”)
  • Annie’s foxhole romances, plus Berly’s headcanon about the rest of the hunting community
  • A teen make-out squat, some clavicle action, and a surprisingly fast ghost linebacker
  • A house full of frozen ghosts who won’t say hi, and a mansion owner who looks like an evil Gomez Addams
  • A voicemail cry for help, and Berly's “fancy lady” bit that derailed the whole recording
  • Haskell Crane (Craig Erickson), show-off ghost, teaches Ghost 101: hot poker rage or total Zen
  • A silver-bearded historical society manager the hosts would very much like to meet
  • Dean’s shower, a steamed-up mirror, and the T-shirt-and-towel combo nobody asked for
  • A ghostly ride-along in the Impala, and why the boys should start wearing iron rings
  • A hunter’s funeral, and a car ride where the boys should be asking Bobby about Frank

Both hosts loved the episode’s new special effects, especially the glowing energy drain and the face hidden in the camera footage. LA loved the mansion and the handsome villain. Berly is glad the show finally explains why Bobby’s signals have been so hit-and-miss, and she loved Annie getting hers. There’s no real gore, just some bloody faces. Berly’s one complaint: ghosts that decompose without a body need a better explanation.

In the lore segment, LA points out that the real Van Ness mansion exists, but it has no link to the episode’s story. Then she reads KX Tickets’ list of eight ways ghosts communicate with the living: touch, electricity, moving objects, repetition, speech, talking boards, familiar smells, and ghost hunting equipment. LA has a ghost story about a hand on her hip, and the hosts dig up an old question: what was that Ouija board pointer called again?

“I can kill werewolves, fix a Pinto, and bake cornbread. I’ll be damned if I can’t get Zen.” – Bobby

Your turn, hunters: Is there a hunter Annie didn’t hook up with? And if you were a ghost, would you go hot poker rage or total Zen?
