I'm over society's obsession with January
Description
Hi friends. Happy New Year.
Like me, I’m sure you’ve been inundated with all the ‘New Year New Me’ newsletters, gym memberships, etc. telling you how 2025 is going to be your year. Rather than cut through the noise, I decided to just wait it out and stay in holiday cocoon mode a little while longer.
But now that I’m here in your inbox, I couldn’t be more excited to tell you about my new framework for becoming your real self, setting real goals, and making real changes in your life.
It’s unlike anything I’ve put together before, and I’m so happy to finally share it with you.
There are a lot of things that excite me about this new project, but I think the BEST part is that I came up with this idea nestled under the covers, avoiding ‘new year new me’ emails and generally resisting January hustle culture.
Let me explain, starting from the beginning.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been staying up late writing, and waking up late too. Last week, I went for a snowy walk in Central Park and then got all of the ingredients for my favorite broccoli cheddar soup. My Christmas tree is still up, partly because I love it and also because I can’t even begin to summon the energy to take it down.
I’ve been thinking about last January, when I started New Year Authentic You; a tiny idea that somehow became a conversation series, a podcast, and a 100+ page workbook. While figuring out what I wanted to offer you at the beginning of this year, it seemed like a no brainer to bring that all back. I loved kicking off 2024 with all of you last year.
New Year Authentic You was born out of my frustration with stereotypical resolutions, and the emphasis on becoming brand new in the new year.
This year, I came up against another frustration that lay underneath the surface of the ‘the new year new me’ frustration; society’s obsession with January.
The idea that we need to go-go-go at the very start of the year, right after sprinting like hell to get to the end of the previous year. I think that creating the Holiday Surivival Kit really allowed me to reflect on just how exhausting the holiday season can be. I ended 2024 more exhausted than ever.
I am still just as interested as ever in helping you become more yourself so that you can live the most wild cozy free life that you can – more interested than ever, in fact. I have so much to share with you; everything I’ve learned about being yourself and why it’s so important to do so, in a world constantly trying to convince you to be someone else. I have so many new things in store.
I just don’t want to get to allllllllll of it right this minute. Because right now, I’m writing to you from bed, wrapped in my too soft for this world Costco blanket, watching Gilmore Girls, trying not to be too despondent about the future of America.
Instead of forcing myself to run full speed ahead, I’m going to try doing things differently.
The calendar is not the boss of me and neither is society.
I’m going to look BEYOND JANUARY. And I’m inviting you to join me.
BEYOND JANUARY is my invitation to you, to meet yourself where you are right at this moment.
