In the Gospel of John’s very distinctive telling of Jesus’s life, Jesus’s first miracle was to change water into wine. What did the author mean by including this story?
Wine at a wedding feast in this story represents joy and merriment. A community of family and friends comes together to celebrate two individuals becoming one. The wine was an essential component. It had run out.
Sometimes the wine runs out for all of us. The things we were looking to bring us joy and happiness have run through and run empty.
The first miracle Jesus performs for us is to restore our joy, if we are willing to trust,m. Our ordinary will be transformed to extraordinary, and our new wine will be better than the old.
