The Baptism of the Lord Jesus

Published 1 year, 4 months ago
Description
The Christmas season in the Church officially ends today with the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. Here He is seen already an adult, ready to begin His public life. His baptism in the hands of St. John the Baptist highlights the action of the Holy Spirit. He descends in the bodily form of a dove when Jesus arises from the water. There is the voice of the Father declaring His relationship with God the Son. With the protagonism of the Holy Spirit highlighted by the narration of St. Luke when he described the difference of John's baptism and that of the Messiah's. This latter will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. St. Luke underscores the Holy Spirit's activity during the public life of Jesus. He again does the same in his second volume, i.e., the Acts of the Apostles. Here, he shows how the third Person of the Blessed Trinity is most active in the nascent Church. Nothing happens without Him. This is the lesson we need to learn by practicing. Invoke Him constantly!
