Steelers Defense Falls Short of Dominance | Steelers Morning Rush

Description

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League.

Today, it's the defensive unit of Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and defensive coordinator Teryl Austin. Despite getting a healthy version of Cam Heyward and Minkah Fitzpatrick this season, despite avoiding the gigantic injury malaise that the linebacker and safety positions went through in 2023 and adding veterans Patrick Queen, DeShon Elliott and Donte Jackson, the NFL's highest-paid defense actually got worse in 2024.

The Steelers finish eighth in scoring defense in 2024, down from sixth the previous year.

What happened? Alan breaks it down.
