कदाचित् सिंहः सिंही च वने भ्रमन्तौ वृषभमेकं दृष्टवन्तौ । सिंहः तं हन्तुम् इच्छन्, गर्वेण सिंह्याः पुरतः स्वस्य अङ्गानां प्रशंसनं कृत्वा हठात् आक्रम्य वृषभस्य कण्ठं त्रोटयित्वा तदीयं मांसम् अखादत् । अनतिदूरे शृगाल्या सह स्थितः कश्चन शृगालः प्रवृत्तं सर्वं दृष्ट्वा स्वस्य शौर्यं प्रदर्शयितुम् यदा उद्युक्तः, तदा वृषभः तं पादेन बलात् प्रहृत्य शृङ्गाभ्यां नितराम् अपीडयत् । अतः अनुकरणात् प्राक् अस्माकं बलं कियत् अस्ति इति विचिन्त्य प्रवर्तनीयम् ।

Once, while a lion and lioness were roaming in the forest, they saw a bull. The lion, wanting to kill the bull and having praised himself in front of the lioness, attacked the bull and killed it. Not far away, a fox and a vixen saw this, and the fox also wanted to display his bravery. When he attacked the bull, the bull kicked him with its legs and injured him with its horns. Therefore, one must know one’s strength before imitating others.
