#426: Behind 'Lake George' Movie and AMC Theater Release with Hamid Castro

Season 24 Episode 24 Published 1 year, 2 months ago
Description

Happy New Year! The countdown to Lake George coming to a theater near you begins. Hamid Castro moved and sold his apartment and cars, putting every $ into the project.

Castro was born in Queens, New York, to immigrant parents. From a young age, he demonstrated entrepreneurial drive. At the age of ten, he began a DJ business, performing at local events.

Drawing on his athletic background, he attracted an elite and celebrity clientele.  Transitioning to filmmaking, encouraged by feedback about his storytelling ability, Castro sold his fitness business and moved to Colombia to focus on screenwriting. Over four years, he taught himself the craft and developed the screenplay for Lake George, a thriller about a convict and father-to-be who must raise $100,000 in one night to save a family member from execution.

Despite receiving offers from buyers and streaming platforms, Castro declined due to concerns over creative control. Determined to bring his vision to life, he independently financed the $2 million film, serving as writer, director, producer, and lead actor. The film was completed in December 2023.
