Supernatural: Out with the Old (7x16) | Recap & Lore

Season 7 Episode 16 Published 1 year, 9 months ago
Description

Supernatural Season 7, Episode 16, Out with the Old recap đź©° Cursed pointe shoes, a killer tea kettle, and a realtor from hell hit Portland on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.

A ballerina’s late-night practice ends very badly, and Sam and Dean trace the trouble to a shop full of a dead hunter’s cursed antiques. Meanwhile, a pushy realtor (Mary Page Keller) is buying up every storefront on Main Street.

Episode Highlights:

  • Blood splooge #57: a ballerina dances her feet off while the janitor dances with his mop
  • Frank (Kevin McNally), finally in the flesh, and still no Dick (just dick pics)
  • Sam is on an all-coffee diet because Lucifer won’t stop singing
  • Dean has seen Black Swan twice, and he’s ready to interview some dancers
  • Shrinking pointe shoes, a kick to Dean’s face (twice), and some ballet puns (pas de done)
  • A dead hunter’s box of cursed goodies, and an extremely ominous safe that Scott never questioned
  • A lineup of every scary kitchen tool, and then the tea kettle
  • A whispering gramophone, a knife as long as Timmy’s forearm, and a vintage Playboy with Steve Martin on the cover
  • Joyce the realtor, her very put-upon assistant George, and a Leviathan with a very specific craving
  • A delivery to Frank’s that does not go as planned

Written by Robert Singer and Jenny Klein (the A Team) and directed by John F. Showalter. The ballerina wins the gore award, with the tea kettle a close second. Berly found it just the right amount of camp and ended up liking George, and LA adored the humor. The only thing missing was more Dick in the flesh.

In the lore segment, Berly covers Halloween Costumes’ list of 19 real and allegedly cursed objects. It includes the real Annabelle, a Raggedy Ann locked away by Ed and Lorraine Warren, and Robert the Doll in Key West, who gets apology letters from visitors hoping to lift his curse. The list also covers the Hope Diamond, the Terracotta Army, Bela Lugosi’s mirror, and Busby’s Stoop Chair, which hangs on a museum wall so no one can sit in it. Plus, the story of a creepy kid in a dark movie theater that still haunts Berly.

“I wonder how old porn kills you.” – Dean
