When you mess up it’s easy to beat yourself up. To say things to yourself that are unkind. To be hyper-critical of your mistakes.
How long would you tolerate someone else treating you badly or talking to you the way you talk to yourself? Not long.
Self-compassion means pausing to be purposefully kind to yourself. To stop and recognize that your feelings are valid. To practice changing your critical self-talk by thinking of how a supportive friend might respond to you.
No one knows you like you do. No one has the intimate knowledge of your experiences. So appreciate this relationship and treat yourself in a way that reflects it.
You deserve the same love that you give others.
