I will not Tell You My Authority for Acting Like This

Published 1 year, 5 months ago
Description
The gospel today tells us of the main difficulty against a good preparation for the coming of the Lord on Christmas Day and, therefore, against the best readiness to welcome the second coming of Jesus Christ. It is not insincerity and lack of love for the truth. They demanded from Our Lord to divulge the authority He did the things He was doing. Our dear Jesus replied by asking first a question. When properly replied to, He would proceed with the authority He had. He inquired of them about the divine or earthly origin of St. John's baptism. Instead of looking for the truth, the chief priests and elders discussed what others would say if they replied in this way or that way. In the end, due to their lack of sincere effort to find the truth, they proffered they did not know. If that was so, then would they want to know. Would they ask for help? Would they treat the matter seriously, since the Precursor was seriously asking people to prepare for the coming of the Messiah. Without their sincerity, Our blessed Lord countered that He would not tell them His authority's source.
