Ringo Sheena is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and pianist. She is also known as the founder and lead vocalist of the band Tokyo Jihen when it was active from 2003 to 2012. Ringo, meaning Apple in Japanese, comes from the manner in which she would brush bright red like an apple when she was in front of people.

Her first official song, "Koufukuron" ("Happiness Theory") was released May 1998, when she was 19 years old. In 1999 she became famous from her single "Koko de Kiss Shite" which broke the top 10 on Oricon charts.

Beside her work as a solo singer, she has produced many songs for other artists such as Rie Tomosaka, Tokio, Puffy. Ringo also collaborated  as a musical director for projects and most recently she surprised the world with simple yet sleek vision of modern Japan when she directed the flag handover at the closing ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympics. She is also joining the planning team for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
