Description
Supernatural Season 7, Episode 13, The Slice Girls recap 🗡️ Dean’s one-night stand at a bougie Seattle bar goes very, very wrong, and the blood splooge count finally climbs again on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.
Men across Seattle are turning up dead, missing their hands and feet, with a strange carving on their chests. Sam wants to keep busy, Dean wants to mingle, and the trail leads to an ancient sisterhood with a very specific family plan. Berly and LA were promised a return to form after the cold open, so they have notes.
Episode Highlights:
- A cold open with blood splooge #54, after four episodes without one, and a victim with questionable taste in art
- Dean’s sentimental flask, and a Sam who is irritated all episode long
- Eddie, the adorable curly-haired coroner, and Berly’s very confident suspect theory
- Dean picks up a woman (Sara Canning) at the bougie Cobalt Room to the sound of AC/DC’s You Shook Me All Night Long
- Shirtless Dean, intercut with blood splooge #55
- The fastest pregnancy in Supernatural history, and the leader Berly dubs Moira Rose: The pain is an honor.
- Professor Morrison (Harry Groener), his PowerPoint, and his very specific favor request
- A talking baby, and a Who Framed Roger Rabbit flashback
- Papers that move on their own, an EMF reading, and a Sam blowup that has Berly wondering what’s being set up
- Sassy Sam asks why the Amazons picked Dean, and a knock at the motel door Dean should not have answered
Directed by Jerry Wanek. Berly figured out mid-credits that it was the same Jerry Wanek, the show’s production designer. His tight close-ups made the cold open land hard, and in the bar they signaled exactly what was coming. The gore was overdue and much appreciated, and both hosts loved shirtless Dean, Eddie, and sassy Sam. The downside: once the research was done, the monsters were too easy to defeat. Berly and LA don’t need the Amazons in their spinoff idea.
In the lore segment, LA covers a Guardian article on whether the Amazon warrior women of Greek legend were real. Hercules had to win the magic girdle of their queen Hippolyta, and now archaeologists are finding women buried with arrowheads, daggers, and maces in Azerbaijan, Russia, and near the Kazakhstan border. Historian Bettany Hughes points to finger bones warped from archery and pelvises shaped by years on horseback. In a remote Caucasus village, locals say their grandmothers fought with their faces covered. Both hosts agree the episode didn’t do these women justice.
