I’ve known Dr. Rob McNamara longer than any other psychologist friends. We met a few days before starting grad school together, and he has remained one of my closest friends over all the years since. Rob is here today talking with us all about his role as a hospital-based psychologist, which allows him to conduct capacity evals and evaluate medical decision-making. This is an area of assessment that was largely unfamiliar to me before our podcast. Rob does a great job walking us through the ins and outs of this position. About Dr. Rob McNamara

Robert McNamara, Ph.D., is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He completed his doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology at Colorado State University, and his Predoctoral Internship in Psychology at the Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center at Virginia Tech. Dr. McNamara practices with the Carilion Clinic, and is an Assistant Professor with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. Dr. McNamara provides assessment and psychotherapy for patients in Pain Management and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, as well as medical decision making capacity evaluations for Carilion Clinic. Dr. McNamara has clinical and research expertise in the areas of substance use prevention and treatment. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, Virginia Academy of Clinical Psychologists, and National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.
