278: If You Hired You, Would You Fire You?

Published 1 year, 8 months ago
Description

It's time for our favorite question of the year: if you hired you, would you fire you? This is a candid end-of-year accountability check, and we're not pointing fingers at clients or other agents today, just taking a hard look in the mirror.

Alissa kicks things off by vulnerably sharing a listing where she dropped the ball, letting a contingent contract feel like a done deal and going quiet on marketing and communication for far too long. We talk through how she pulled herself out of the spiral (spoiler: the second she picked up the phone, the anxiety disappeared), and why "is it really imposter syndrome if you're just not doing a good job" might be the most important line in this whole episode.

From there we run through a full list of reasons employees actually get fired, reframed for real estate: tardiness, dishonesty, insubordination, poor communication, resistance to change, and more. We also share a real story about a young buyer who signed a six-month buyer rep agreement just to see a house without understanding what she agreed to, and why contracts should never be used as a "gotcha." We close things out with a fun (and a little too accurate) breakdown of how each Enneagram type might get themselves fired.

Here's what we cover in this episode:
-Alissa's story of a contingent contract she treated as done, and the communication gap that followed
-Why the anxiety of a hard phone call is almost always worse than making the call itself
-Whether it's really imposter syndrome if the work genuinely isn't being done
-A full list of reasons employees get fired, reframed for real estate agents
-Why slipping the buyer rep agreement in without explaining it counts as an integrity issue
-A real story about a buyer who signed a six-month agreement just to see a house
-Why contracts should never be used as leverage or a "gotcha" against a client
-How poor communication and lack of follow-through are the top reasons sellers lose confidence
-The importance of being a good co-op agent, and why episode 129 is worth a refresh
-A story of a seller who sabotaged his own home's showings out of spite toward his agent
-Why the goal of a listing isn't always the sale, it's the reputation you leave behind
-A breakdown of how each Enneagram type might unintentionally get themselves fired
-A quote worth remembering: the first three years isn't when you get rich, it's when you get good
