"Getting Help from ChatGPT—Is It Cheating Life?"
Welcome back to another installment of AI with Honor! Today, I want to dive into a hot topic, especially for those of us navigating life in our 50s: How artificial intelligence (AI), particularly systems like ChatGPT, is shaping the way we think, work, and make decisions. Is it an asset, a crutch, or something else entirely? Let’s break it down.
Using AI for Real Estate: A Second Set of Eyes
One of the best ways AI is making waves is in real estate. Picture this: you’re a seller or buyer reviewing a complex contract. You’ve hired a trusted agent, someone with experience, ethics, and expertise. But what if you could double-check that contract using ChatGPT? With a simple copy-paste, you could have AI analyze the fine print, point out potential pitfalls, and suggest questions to ask your agent.
While this isn’t about replacing professionals, it’s about enhancing your decision-making process. That said, there’s a caveat: AI can hallucinate. Sometimes, ChatGPT confidently provides incorrect or incomplete information. For instance, I’ve requested 3,000-word articles only to receive 1,000 words, with the system claiming it met the request. It’s a reminder that while AI is advanced, it’s not perfect. Use it as a supplemental tool, not your sole source of truth.
Old School vs. New Tech: The Evolution of Tools
Back in my LAPD days, we relied on RD maps—simple tools for navigating Los Angeles. Later, we adopted Thomas Guides, which added bulk but provided more detail. Fast forward to today, and we have GPS systems that predict traffic, suggest routes, and calculate arrival times.
AI functions much the same way. In real estate, I can ask ChatGPT to analyze sold properties in Valencia, filter for detached homes with two-car garages and guest bathrooms, and compile the data into blog posts, video scripts, or social media captions. Tasks that used to take hours now take minutes.
Still, there’s something to be said for the old ways. Driving without GPS, relying on memory, or manually analyzing trends keeps the mind sharp. So while technology is great for efficiency, we shouldn’t lose sight of the value in doing things the hard way sometimes.
AI and Emotional Intelligence: The Surprising Edge
What’s fascinating is AI’s ability to simulate empathy. Imagine getting a confrontational text. You’re unsure how to respond—should you be firm, empathetic, or neutral? Enter ChatGPT. Provide the context, and it will craft a response that fits your tone and intent. Whether you want to de-escalate or stand your ground, AI delivers.
Is this “cheating,” or is it simply leveraging tools to communicate more effectively? When we were kids, calculators were forbidden in math class, forcing us to show our work. Today, AI feels like the calculator of communication and decision-making. It’s not replacing critical thinking—it’s enhancing it.
Engage With Me: What Do You Think?
So, is getting help from ChatGPT “cheating life,” or is it the smarter way to live? I believe it’s all about balance. AI can amplify our abilities, but it’s up to us to use it thoughtfully.
What’s your take? Are we becoming too dependent on technology, or are we wisely evolving with the times? Share your thoughts in the comments below! I’d love to hear your perspectives.
