How to Heal America: Civil Rights Activist and Minister John Perkins
Season 1
Episode 27
Published 5 years, 9 months ago
Description
In 1947, John Perkins' family, sharecroppers in Mississippi, put him on a train to California after white police officers shot and killed his brother "for talking too loud." There, Perkins encountered Jesus and a growing conviction that the Bible affirms human dignity of every race above all other philosophies. He has spent decades developing under-served communities as a civil rights activist and evangelist, is the author of 17 books and has served on five presidential task forces. He spoke to his friend and Religion Unplugged's senior correspondent Roberta Ahmanson about how the church and the country can heal from racial division and injustice.
