The Power of Prayer 🙏 in the Life of Jesus: Prayers of Thanksgiving 👏 When the Odds are Against you.
By Pastor and Mrs Chifamba
JESUS WOULD OFFER PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING EVEN WHEN ALL ODDS WHERE AGAINST HIM. IN MATTHEW CHAPTER 11 HE GAVE THANKS WHEN DOUBTED BY HIS FORERUNNER, WHEN UNFAIRLY CASTIGATED AS A WINEBIBBER, WHEN THE TOWNS WHERE MOST OF HIS MIRACLES HAD BEEN DONE DID NOT BELIEVE HIM! YET HE FOUND SOMETHING TO THANK GOD FOR‼️
Matthew 11:1-6
And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities. 2Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, 3And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? 4Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: 5The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
HE WHO IN THE SCRIPTURES HAD FORBIDDEN 🚫 WINE AND STRONG DRINK WAS UNFAIRLY PRONOUNCED A WINEBIBBER 🥲 AT THE CROSS HE REFUSED EVEN TO TAKE IT AS A PAINKILLER
Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
Mark 15:23
And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.
Matthew 11:18-19
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. 19The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
Matthew 11:20-24
ONE WOULD THINK IN THIS SCENARIO THERE IS NOTHING TO BE THANKFUL ABOUT, HOWEVER, JESUS FOUND SOMETHING TO BE THANKFUL FOR‼️ HE GAVE THANKS FOR THE UNEDUCATED NEAR ILLITERATE DISCIPLES THAT BELIEVED IN HIM. WHEN YOU ARE AGAINST ALL ODDS IN LIKE KEEP ON THE SUNNY-SIDE OF LIFE.
1 Corinthians 1:18-21
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
Matthew 11:25-26
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. 26Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Many professed Christians dwell too much on the dark side of life, when they might rejoice in the sunshine; they repine when they should be glad; they talk of trials when they should offer praise for the rich blessings they enjoy. They look at the unpleasant things, hoard up the disappointments, and sigh over the griefs, and, as a consequence, grow heavyhearted and sad, when, should they count up their blessings, they would find them so numerous that they would forget to mention their annoyances. If they would every day take note of the favors that are done them; if they would store their minds with the precious memory of kindnesses received, how much occasion they would find to render thanks and praise to the Giver of all good. – {ML 327.4}
Psalm 103:1-5
Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3Who forgiveth all thine iniqui
