The SAFE Act (H.R. 3475/S.2037) was introduced as an amendment to the Farm Bill of 2023 (expected to pass in the next few months). This act is being sold to Americans as a bill that:"...bans horse slaughter in the United States and prohibits the exportation of horses for slaughter." It does not. It prohibits only slaughter for "human" consumption.
Animal consumption: must be prohibited so that U.S. horses cannot be transported to or slaughtered in the U.S., Mexico, Canada or anywhere else for animal food (or shipped for human consumption under the guise of animal food.
