Season 1 Episode 315
Iron Sharpens Iron
17
As iron sharpens iron,
so a friend sharpens a friend.
18
As workers who tend a fig tree are allowed to eat the fruit,
so workers who protect their employer’s interests will be rewarded.
19
As a face is reflected in water,
so the heart reflects the real person.
True friends are honest with each other and don’t use flattery. Sometimes friends will disagree, but the tough conversations help strengthen the relationship rather than weaken it.
Verse 18 teaches that persistence and hard work will eventually pay off, while verse 19 reminds us that a person’s true character is revealed by their actions, not just their words. What’s in a person’s heart is shown by how they live.
Think about this: Do you have a friend with whom you can be completely honest without worrying about losing the friendship? If so, you’re truly blessed. If not, it’s worth seeking out such a friendship, remembering that to build that kind of trust, you need to allow yourself to be vulnerable.
