There Will Be More Joy In Heaven with One Sinner Who Repents

Published 1 year, 6 months ago
Description
Jesus aims at getting us all to repent of our sins. Only thus will we be open to His mercy and His mercy to be applied to our repentance. When there is no repentance, God's mercy will not work to forgive us of our sins and thus save us. What victory the devil achieves when he gets us to believe that we do not need repentance. That would mean that we did not sin and therefore are not sinners. Thus, God's saving power will not work on them! The gospel today tells us of Our dear Lord's effort to convince us of God's mercy and the need to repent for our sins because God will forgive our sins. This is the basic status of everybody. We are all sinners. However, the Pharisees and scribes, who were supposedly more knowledgeable of God and His plans and words, did not see themselves as sinners. They were righteous, they claimed. Thus, they did not need repentance. Thus, Jesus warned them about it. He mentions two stories in the gospel to try to convince them to seek God's mercy.
