Spiders Web

27

If you set a trap for others,
you will get caught in it yourself.
If you roll a boulder down on others,
     it will crush you instead.

28

A lying tongue hates its victims,
     and flattering words cause ruin.

These two proverbs are captured well by Sir Walter Scott’s famous quote: "O, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive."

Think about this: The goal of flattery is to manipulate someone by exaggerating or outright lying. We often excuse flattery by saying it’s harmless, thinking it just makes the person feel good. But in reality, it can make them feel better about themselves than they should. Flattery is dishonest and a form of false testimony. It’s a sin. Do you use flattery to get what you want?
