Ole Miss baseball is nearing the end of its fall intrasquad season. One undeniable truth has emerged over weeks and weeks of practices.
Absolutely nothing is settled.
It’s by design, of course. Ole Miss is coming off back-to-back losing seasons following the 2022 national championship run. The Rebel coaching staff — which now includes a full-time pitching coach for the first time — wants to leave all options on the table.
The depth chart is etched in sand, if there’s even a depth chart at all.
Junior slugger Judd Utermark has certainly thrived in the competitive free-for-all. He’s been one of the Rebels’ top hitters, especially with power, throughout the fall.
Last weekend Utermark was 1 for 3 with a home run, a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base. He went opposite field with a blast that left his bat at 105 miles per hour.
